Zombie Panic! is a mod for Half Life, and the predecessor to Zombie Panic! Source.

About

Zombie Panic! is a multiplayer Half-Life modification, developed by the Zombie Panic! Team. Zombie Panic! (Half-Life Modification) is the prototype that eventually became Zombie Panic! Source in 2007.

After roughtly 22 years later after v1.0 release, in 2025, Zombie Panic! got updated to Half-Life 25th Anniversary update using a brand new code base, since the original source code was lost. The source code is also available on GitHub which you can grab here.

Gameplay

Survival

The key of the gamemode is to survive (provided the player is on the Survivor Team). Staying with ones' teammates and sharing equipment such as weapons and ammo is essential to the game. The round starts with all the survivors placed near each other in one general areas (with the exception of some maps). Some players will be selected to play as zombies and may spawn not too far from the survivors.

To win the game as a survivor, you can either survive until the timer runs out (if the server have timelimit active) or kill zombies until their lives run out. For the zombie team, their goal is to simply make sure all survivors are killed.

Objective

Objective gamemode was available in v1.0, but was left unfinished. On v1.1, this mode is finally properly working. This gamemode has similar rules to Survival, except the survivors can't win by waiting for the round timer to run out, nor kill all zombies to win. They are required to reach the end to win.

Characters

There is one Generic Survivor and zombie in the game (which is a modified HD Barney model from Half-Life: Blue Shift), he wears a black flannel shirt, a backpack, jeans and boots.
