Template:WeaponTopNav Firearms and Melee Weapons are the basic weapons used to slay the undead in Zombie Panic! Source. Every survivor starts with a random pistol and a melee weapon. Survivors who joined the round after the round has begun, which are known as Late joiners, are only given weapons with terrible stats with no extra ammunition.

Types of Guns

Several types of guns exist in the game, each having its own fire rate, capacity, ammunition type, damage, weight, and inventory size.

Pistols

Pistols use Pistol Ammo, which comes in a red box with 15 rounds.

Pistols are often used as secondary weapons, but they can be used effectively as primary weapons in a pinch. They take up one slot of inventory space, use semi-automatic actions, have medium capacity, and inflict relatively low damage.

Experienced players may carry more than one pistol to avoid reloading at the wrong moment, as changing weapons takes less time than reloading. Pistols may be useful in maps that prominently feature water, as they are the only guns that can be fired underwater.

Magnum

The Revolver uses Magnum Ammo, which comes in a white box with 6 rounds.

Only one weapon exists in this category, but in the right hands it is the most powerful gun in the game. The Revolver takes up two slots of inventory space, has low capacity, and inflicts high damage. A headshot with the Revolver is a one-hit kill, even against the Carrier.

Submachine Guns

SMGs also use Pistol Ammo, which can be useful as it is often the most abundant type of ammunition.

SMGs can be used as primary weapons, although a survivor caught alone with an SMG may be overpowered. Both weapons use automatic actions and inflict relatively low damage, but the Glock 18c behaves like a pistol in other regards and the MP5 behaves like a rifle.

Rifles

Rifles use Rifle Ammo, which comes in a yellow box with 30 rounds.

Rifles are the most versatile weapon type. They take up two inventory slots, and have high capacity, automatic actions, and deal moderate damage. which makes them viable weapons for almost all defensive and offensive situations.

One skilled survivor with a rifle can easily kill several zombies with only one magazine, but a survivor with poor aim can waste several boxes of ammo in a few short moments.

Shotguns

Shotguns use Shotgun Shells, which appear in packs of 8. Each shell contains 8 pellets, which will be fired in a "spray" pattern that becomes less accurate over longer ranges.

Shotguns are effective primary weapons due to their high damage at short range, but they have a slow rate of fire, low capacity, and lower damage at long range compared to other guns. Shotgun ammo is heavy and will slow you down, so you may find yourself running low often when using a shotgun.

A headshot at close range can often be a one-hit kill with a shotgun. The Winchester and Remington take up two slots of inventory space, while the Super Shorty takes one slot.

Types of Melee Weapons

Three different types of melee weapons exist in the game.

One-Handed Melee Weapons

One-handed weapons are given to the player at spawn, and are best used as last-resort secondary weapons. They have low range, low damage, fast swing speed, and take up one slot of inventory space.

Two-Handed Melee Weapons

Two-handed melee weapons are only available by finding them in the world. They tend to be preferable to one-handed weapons, since they have a few advantages and no serious disadvantages, but they are still best used as secondary weapons. They have moderate to high range, moderate damage, moderate swing speed, and take up one (baseball bat) or two (broom, golf club) slots of inventory space.

Two-Handed Heavy Melee Weapons

Two-handed heavy melee weapons are relatively rare, and only available by finding them in the world. They are often used as primary weapons by skilled players, and a headshot from the sledgehammer is a one-hit kill. They have long range, high damage, slow swing speed, and take up two slots of inventory space.

Fists

If you holster your weapon, or have no weapons at all, your player character can still use their fists to attack zombies. Except in rare circumstances, this is a bad idea - fists have high swing speed, but very low range and damage. Some players may choose to use fists effectively as an alternate means to destroy breakable items like crates and windows, leaving one additional slot of inventory space open for another weapon.
